Caribbean - Grace Project

We are also working on establishing a fair trade program in 2008 and 2009 for women from small villages in Saint Lucia and possibly other Caribbean nations. While many natives travel to the cities for work, to cater to the tourists, tourists rarely venture outside of their all-inclusive resorts or the capital city to support smaller, local shops and services. In addition, the average tourist uses more than twice the energy and generates three times more waste than the natives. Our goal is to create an alternative industry and reduce dependence on tourism, empower native women and give them access to consumers, and create environmentally friendly and sustainable products. This way, women and their families can earn an income that allows them to install some of the basic home commodities, such as solar-powered hot water, which those in developed countries enjoy.
