Ethiopia

Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa and one of the oldest in the world - at least 2,000 years. Although now a landlocked country plagued by water shortages and over 1.5 million people living with AIDS, Ethiopia has been a refuge in the past for immigrants and refugees from Sudan and other African countries in crisis. The average household income (GDP) in Ethiopia averages under $1,000 per year.
