Jeff Kaley, founder of Asian World Imports, spent over five years in Nepal beginning in 1967 as a Peace Corps volunteer. His great love and apreciation of the Nepalese and other Asian peoples and their cultures has led to the adoption of his business philosophy, which incorporates equitable wages, environmental sustainability, workplace safety and preserving tradition. Besides working with producers on newly made crafts, Asian World Imports is dedicated to preserving artifacts and antiques, such as Hmong textiles. They have given many items to museums across the country. Asian world imports provides benefits to producers and their communities beyond financial - they aid in building footbridges across dangerous streams and classroom furniture, for example. They also provide scholarships, rural health post supplies, drought relief and more. Not only are they certified through the Fair Trade Federation, but Asian World Imports is a member of the Bangor Clean Clothes Network and PICA. Support Asian World Imports artisans by buying their products in our store.
